The RoundGlass Samsara Summit is a gathering of thought leaders, legislators, industry leaders, environmentalists, religious leaders, scientists, and innovators to discuss our response to the ecological crisis. The Summit will be held at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, IISc, Bengaluru.

Kartick Satyanarayan

Animal Rights Activist, Rescue Specialist

Kartick Satyanarayan is the Co-Founder and Chairman of Wildlife SOS. He is the man behind the eradication of the cruel tradition of Dancing Bears in India. Kartick is a Member of the IUCN Bear Specialist Group (Sloth Bear Team Expert), and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, amongst others. He is a Member of the Government of India’s Central Zoo Authority (2007-2015) and an Honorary Wildlife Warden of the Government of NCT Delhi. Kartick, as an Animal Welfare Consultant to Brooke Hospital for Animals (UK), presented papers at workshops and conferences in the UK, the Netherlands, Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan, Mexico, Indonesia and the USA.

Conservationist

Dr Barbara Maas has worked in international wildlife conservation for over two decades and on every continent. Her strong passion and deep sense of kinship for the natural world has been the guiding theme throughout her life. A wildlife biologist by training, she studied the behavioural ecology of bat-eared foxes at the University of Cambridge before taking up a postdoctoral position at the University of Oxford. An advisor and chief executive to conservation and animal welfare groups around the world for 18 years, she has also been involved in nature films and is a well published author. As Head of NABU International’s Species Conservation Programme, Barbara continues to be involved in Maui’s and Hector’s dolphin protection, as well as other conservation projects in Africa and Asia. Barbara is also Secretary Env. & Conservation- Intl. Buddhist Confederation.

Nature/Wildlife Photographer

Dhritiman Mukherjee is arguably the most respected Nature photographer in India. As a professional photographer his work has been published numerous times with BBC, National Geographic, New York Times, Lonely Planet, London Geographic, WWF, UNESCO, Birdlife International, etc. He has won many national and international awards for his images. Recently he was awarded the Carl Zeiss Conservation Award 2013 for his contribution towards conservation of wildlife in India.

Professor Sundar Sarukkai

Professor

Sundar Sarukkai is Professor of Philosophy at the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Bangalore. He is the author of the following books: Translating the World: Science and Language, Philosophy of Symmetry, Indian Philosophy and Philosophy of Science, What is Science? and The Cracked Mirror: An Indian Debate on Experience and Theory (co-authored with Gopal Guru). He is particularly interested in Gandhian thought and its approach to sustainability and development.

Kiran Kumar is an Indian space scientist and the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation. He is credited with the development of key scientific instruments aboard the Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan space crafts He has been awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to the fields of science and technology.Kiran Kumar previously served as Director of Ahmedabad Space Applications Centre. His legacy spans across his contributions to the scientific world, specifically Indian space endeavors, and his efforts towards the dissemination of knowledge by way of articles and lectures.

Adventurists, Guinness record holders

Tashi and Nungshi (born on 21 June 1991) are the first siblings and twins to climb the Seven Summits and reach the North and South Poles and complete the Adventurers Grand Slam and Three Poles Challenge. They are also the first twins to reach the North and South Pole on Skis. Tashi and Nungshi were conferred India’s highest adventure honor ‘Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award’ 2015 by the President of India on 29 Aug 2016 and on 23 Oct 2016, awarded 2016 Leif Erikson Young Explorer Award in Husavik, by the President of Iceland.

ROHAN CHAKRAVARTY

Cartoonist Creator of ‘Green Humour’

Notorious for rolling up into a ball like a pangolin to avoid answering the phone or meeting people, Rohan is a cartoonist, illustrator and creator of the series ‘Green Humour’- India’s first internationally syndicated comic strip. With over 400 cartoons, Green Humour is the largest collection of environmental cartoons on the web; and appears in newspapers, wildlife magazines and websites. Other than comics, Rohan collaborates frequently with organizations and state-run boards to bring out illustrated awareness material on wildlife. Rohan has won awards by the UNDP, Sanctuary Asia, and WWF International for drawing for conservation.

This Summit will be attended by people from all walks of life, including environmentalists, conservationists, political leaders, religious leaders, educationists, industrialists, and other experts.

 

Together, we hope to celebrate nature and find a solution for the pressing ecological crisis in India.
